City of Canada Bay Local Planning Panel
Call for Community Members
The City of Canada Bay Council is seeking Expressions of Interest from local community representatives to become a member of the City of Canada Bay Local Planning Panel (LPP).
LPPs are mandatory for Councils in the Greater Sydney region and Wollongong. The main function of the LPP is to determine significant or contentious development applications that meet certain criteria as identified by the NSW Government. The LPP may also have planning proposals and other planning or development matters referred to them for review and advice.
Council is seeking two alternate community representatives to become a member of the LPP. The community representatives will alternate attendance at meetings and join three (3) other appointed professional members on the Panel – these technical members will have expertise in one or more of the following disciplines: planning, architecture, law, heritage, urban design, engineering etc.
The community representatives will be appointed to the Panel on a part-time basis commencing mid-2021 and Council is seeking Expressions of Interest from members of the local community who can demonstrate experience and understanding of local issues, especially in the area of building and development. All applicants will need to adhere to a code of conduct and operational procedures.
It is anticipated that the successful candidates will attend LPP meetings every alternate month. Membership of the Panel is for a period of up to three (3) years. Remuneration rates for members and any allowances are set by the NSW Minister for Planning and Public Spaces.
Selection Criteria – Community Representative
Local community representatives may be selected on the basis that they:
- Are current residents with the City of Canada Bay Local Government Area, and have an understanding of local issues of concern to the community.
- Are able to demonstrate a basic level of understating of the planning system i.e. knowledge of Council’s Local Environmental Plan, Development Control Plan or Local Strategic Plan
Note: Councillors, property developers and real estate agents are ineligible for membership of the Panel.
The Department of Planning, Industry and Environment has developed guidelines and operational requirements for LPPs. Further information on the relevant legislation and LPPs can be found on the Department’s website (http://www.planning.nsw.gov.au).
An Expression of Interest must be made by visiting Council’s webpage at www.canadabay.nsw.gov.au and applying through the Recruitment page, Positions Vacant.
If you are interested all Expression of Interest applications must include a current CV, and be received by Council by close of business on 28 June 2021 11:30pm.
