About the role

City of Canada Bay council is proud to offer a Cadetship within our Environmental Health Team, as we invest in the future of our staff, ensuring they have rewarding careers and the skills and experience necessary to deliver high-quality services to our community. You will gain valuable knowledge and hands-on experience in governance, risk management and insurance areas, working closely with our Coordinator for Environmental Health while pursuing your degree.

As an Environmental Health Officer Cadet, you will:

  • Assist in the investigation of regulatory environmental and public health issues such as:
    • Food Premises
    • Skin-penetration premises
    • Cooling towers
    • Swimming Pools
  • Interpret and understand environmental health and public health legislation, codes and policies and enforce requirements where breaches are identified
  • Provide support in the assessment of consultant/professional reports for environmental health related issues and provide advice to internal and external customers as required
  • Under guidance, assess consultant/professional reports for environmental health related issues and provide advice to internal and external customers as required.
  • Under guidance, review technical reports and provide advice on environmental health issues associated with standard development applications
  • Investigate allocated environmental health complaints and under guidance, determine appropriate course of action to achieve suitable resolution within given timeframes
  • Interface with customers and Council staff to provide environmental health related advice as required.

About the person 

To be successful in this role, you will:  

  • Be enrolled in Bachelor of Natural Science (Environmental Health) degree or equivalent and in your final or second-last year of your degree
  • Have well-developed skills in research, analysis and preparation of high-quality policies and documents and reports
  • Show a willingness to learn and contribute positively to a team environment
  • Hold a current Class C NSW Drivers Licence
