About the role

The Business Analyst is responsible for analysing, documenting, and evaluating business needs, processes, and systems to identify opportunities for improvement and support informed decision-making within the local government organisation. This role serves as a key link between business requirements and IT solutions, ensuring that technology initiatives align with organisational objectives. By driving process optimisation and delivering effective solutions, the Business Analyst contributes directly to increased efficiency and the achievement of strategic goals.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Work with stakeholders to understand and document business needs, including customer journeys, processes, and workflows.
  • Review current systems, processes, and data to find gaps and areas for improvement.
  • Create clear business and functional requirements to support IT solution design and development.
  • Collaborate with IT teams to turn business needs into technical solutions.
  • Run workshops, interviews, and meetings to gather input and align on requirements.
  • Analyse data to find trends and insights that support decision-making.
  • Help with user acceptance testing to make sure solutions meet business needs and are easy to use.
  • Suggest ways to improve, automate, or streamline business processes.
  • Support project teams to deliver IT projects on time and successfully.
  • Keep up with industry trends and new technologies to spot potential improvements.

About the person 
The preferred candidate will demonstrate: 

  • Experience working as a Business Analyst or in a similar role within a complex organisation.
  • Strong skills in analysing data and turning it into practical insights.
  • Able to gather and document requirements using the right tools and methods.
  • Basic understanding of project management approaches.
  • Understanding of business processes and how to map workflows.
  • Experience using business analysis tools and software.
  • Understanding of local government operations and regulations is advantageous.
